CAMP WOLFEBORO, EAGLE PROJECT, AND THE BOY SCOUTS My father got me involved in the Boy Scouts at an early age. At first I was in it just because my friends at school were too, but then I became a lot more involved when I started taking on leadership roles. I achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and then moved on to work at Camp Wolfeboro as the Outpost Director.

CAMP WOLFEBORO I worked at Camp Wolfeboro for three summers up near Arnold, California. Those three months out of the year I was completely cut off from the outside world. My role was the Outpost Director and Trek Leader. I was in charge of three staff members who helped lead all the hikes in and out of camp. I'm very proud of one hike my co-worker Tom Enzi and I planned. We staged a three part hike looping up near some old remote lakes and a couple reservoirs. The whole week prior we trucked out canoes and food to stopping points. It was beautiful 45 mile 5 day hike with canoe portaging for the last 15 miles.

There isn't a day that goes by without me thinking about the Carson-Iceburg Wilderness. Every year I meet up with old coworkers so we can retreat to the heart of the Sierras.

EAGLE PROJECT I contacted Hillside Covenant Church in hopes that they would offer me a problem I could solve. I toured the facility with the church director and realized that they did not have much space. The parking lot and the church itself took up the whole flat area on the side of the hill. I looked over the edge of a guard rail and found just 50 feet downhill there was a wide open field that could easily be used for church events.

Working with the church director, my troop, and companies from around the Bay Area, I was able to build stairs that provided access to the open field. Over the course of a year I planned this project and on two days we cleaned the field and built the staircase. I would like to thank my father for not only his guidance, but also his determination to stay hands-off. I am proud to say I took point in planning and executing this project.
